As if Zooey Deschanel could get any cooler. As founders of The Farm Project, the Austin-based actress and her husband, Jacob Pechenik, have created Lettuce Grow, what we think is just about the chicest way to grow your own food while also closing the gap on food mileage and resource waste. Members of Lettuce Grow receive a self-watering hydroponic Farmstand made from ocean plastic; biweekly deliveries of seedlings to plant in their farmstand; and educational content and support from experts on what’s growing. Each farmstand is designed to save time and space, delivering about the same yield as 40 square feet farmed conventionally in raised beds, with only a few minutes needed for maintenance and harvesting each week. The best part? Lettuce Grow will donate one farmstand to a school or community-based organization for each one sold. From $400, lettucegrow.com
