Each fall, we are overcome with excitement upon seeing the beginning stages of the colossal build-out taking place at The Rachofsky House. The geodesic dome signifies that one of fall’s preeminent fundraisers is just around the corner. TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art is back, in its 21st year, and will honor Alex Katz as the featured artist for this year’s gala, set for Saturday, Oct. 26. “Alex is an anchor in the contemporary art community,” shares Howard Rachofsky, who, along with his wife, Cindy, will host the annual event alongside Lisa and John Runyon. “His influence on young painters will undoubtedly continue for generations to come.” Katz’s work truly comes to life through his large-scale canvases featuring iconic portraits and brilliant landscapes. In good company, Katz joins the impressive roster of previous award recipients, including Ellsworth Kelly, Richard Phillips, Ed Ruscha and Julian Schnabel. We have no doubt that with Katz at the helm of this year’s gala and auction—benefiting amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and the Dallas Museum of Art—the paddles will be waving high throughout the evening.
