Long have fans joked that the real Swedish House Mafia was simple-to-build home furnishings megastore Ikea, but now the joke comes full circle.
The Grammy-nominated electronic music trio behind hits “Don’t You Worry Child” and “Moth To a Flame” with The Weeknd breaks new barriers with a 20-piece collection of furniture and home accessories to be sold exclusively in partnership with the retail giant. From chairs to record players, the Obergränsad collection is sure to turn heads and impress fans.

Obergränsad is Swedish for “unlimited,” and that’s how the musical group wants you to feel should you purchase its wares.
“The design supports creating, playing, enjoying and even just setting the mood,” Swedish House Mafia is quoted in a press release.
The collection is developed with music producers, music lovers and creators of all kinds in mind. Three pieces have so far been unveiled. A music production desk, armchair and record player debuted at 2022 Milan Design Week just a few days ago.
All three are sleek and minimal in design, craft in fine materials and heavy black color palettes. The supergroup’s producers worked with designers to ensure the highest-quality, and that each piece actually aids in the production process by delivering the comfort needed to go long hours in a late-night studio session.
“Sound is everything in music, and we have added two speaker stands to the desk in order to bring the speakers to the ear level,” Ikea’s in-house designer Friso Wiersma says. “We have also added a pull-out shelf below the desktop. This functionality allows you to have a midi keyboard, for example, in easy reach, while maximizing space on your desktop.”
The vinyl record player is designed to work seamlessly with Ikea’s Eneby speaker, and the armchair boasts an adjustable strap.
“[The] Obergränsad armchair manifests the importance of comfort,” says James Futcher, creative leader at Ikea of Sweden. “Armchairs are a place to unwind, to reflect, to set oneself into the creative flow.”
The Ikea collaboration is just one part of the supergroup’s big comeback year. After a five-year hiatus, members Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso returned to the stage with debut LP Paradise Again and a headline performance at Coachella. The trio was joined in that two-weekend music festival by close friend and collaborator The Weeknd. SHM are about to embark on an international tour in support of Paradise Again.
