THE PARTY Bringing a crowd of 1,200 to laughter and tenderhearted tears is one of Ruth Altshuler’s talents. The fundraising powerhouse was honored at the 30th anniversary of the Tocqueville Society Luncheon. Serving as a kickoff to the 2017-18 United Way campaign, the luncheon included a conversation with campaign chair Troy Aikman, moderated by the CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Jennifer Sampson. Honored with Decades of Distinction awards were Margaret McDermott and Margot Perot. THE GUESTS The city’s most notable filled the Dallas Ballroom of the Omni Dallas Hotel to celebrate the threefold auspicious occasion of an anniversary, announcement and accolades. Luncheon chairs Roger Horchow, Regen and Jeff Fearon, and Lizzie and Dan Routman hosted guests including former first lady Laura Bush. Cutting their honeymoon short for the occasion, Aikman was joined by his new bride, Capa Aikman. THE HIGHLIGHTS Altshuler was surprised with a duet by her grandsons, and a special United Way fund was created in her name. -Krystal Sarna
