With the announcement of Spectre, its first fully electric vehicle, Rolls-Royce has auto enthusiasts counting down the days till 2023.
Consider it a prophecy fulfilled: In April 1900, Rolls-Royce co-founder Charles Rolls experienced an early electric motorcar and, impressed by its noiseless, clean drive, declared it to be the wave of the future. Well, the future is now for this ultimate luxury automobile maker, as it recently announced its first allelectric vehicle: Spectre, which is set to launch in Q4 2023.
It’s shrouded in mystery, but there’s one thing we do know about the new electric Spectre.
Touted as the first superluxury auto of its type by CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, it’s a significant step toward the brand’s commitment to transform its entire fleet to electric by 2030. With the brand’s own proprietary scalable, flexible aluminum spaceframe at its foundation and with global road testing set to cover 2.5 million kilometers (a simulation of 400 years of use) to ensure it satisfies the standards of the brand’s discriminating clientele, it’s safe to say this will be an EV like no other.
It will be a Rolls-Royce through and through.
“First of all, Spectre is a Rolls-Royce,” notes Müller-Ötvös. “And, No. 2, it’s an electric Rolls-Royce and not the other way around. It will have all the features that our clients love and enjoy in their Rolls-Royce today. No compromises on luxury, no compromises in materials, no compromises in experience. No compromises.”
