Marrying a mixture of antique finds and contemporary furnishings, this family’s treasure trove of a home is imbued with warm sophistication and unique style.
The kitchen is the ultimate mix of form and function, featuring custom cabinetry by Rick Triplett, Thermador appliances, Visual Comfort lighting and stools from MGBW.
As senior vice president of retail at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, Ben Collins knows a thing or two about the art of design. Throw his partner—a highly skilled interior designer—Josh Collins into the mix and you have yourself the blueprints to two brilliant visionaries. This is evident upon first look at their Preston Hollow home, which they share with their daughter Eleanor. “The inspiration was to create a home that honored its midcentury history and, simultaneously, modernized it to allow for our family to live here comfortably for years to come,” shares Ben behind what first sparked the direction in design. “We love the element of surprise. From the outside, this home might look like any updated midcentury ranch home. When you enter, you are greeted with an open floor plan, high ceilings and many other unexpected elements.”
The primary bathroom features fun wallpaper from the Eskayel for Mitchell Gold Bob Williams collaboration.
Carefully curating a thoughtful blend of clean lines, warm hues and playful undertones, the home carries a unique mix of elevated design with a welcoming warmth. “We design spaces that will age well, but that still have elements reflecting our personality like the neon sign in our study that is in the likeness of Josh’s handwriting,” shares Ben.
Visual Comfort lighting helps create a retro vibe in the office.
Other treasures one might find while taking a stroll throughout the space are punchy and thought-provoking pieces of artwork from the couple’s personal collection that they have amassed throughout their time together. “When I sit in a certain spot in our home, it’s easy to transport myself to another place through our art. Remembering a trip to Santa Fe with great friends, discovering a local artist (and now friend) like Amy Werntz for the first time at a show in Oak Cliff, or acquiring our first Gigi Mills... they are all special and individual points in our past. It also allows us to share those experiences with our friends as they visit our home. I truly believe that art is a big part of the soul of a home.”
The primary bedroom is a calming oasis complete with this Giselle sofa from MGBW, one-of-a-kind Loloi rug and a playful piece from artist Amy Werntz.
