Why is Cecile being honored at the Dallas Awards this year?
KL: Cecile Richards embodies many Texas values, including strength, compassion, grace and humor. She has carried these values throughout her career, from launching the Texas Freedom Network to Planned Parenthood Federation of America President and more.
What is the importance of PP’s mission, especially in the current climate?
KL: Since first opening our health center doors in Dallas nearly 90 years ago, Planned Parenthood has been a trusted resource for sexual and reproductive healthcare. Today, Texas has the highest number of uninsured residents in the U.S., and our healthcare services are more essential than ever.
What does the future look like for women’s health in Texas?
KL: Next year, Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas celebrates our 90th year as a trusted, essential partner in keeping Texas communities healthy. What began in Dallas when our health center doors opened in 1935 continues in health centers and virtual healthcare provided throughout central, east, north and west Texas. Every day, our mission is supported by the generosity of the Dallas community.
What stands out most about the Dallas community:
CR: My family grew up in Dallas and I have many great memories. For decades, the Dallas community has provided essential support for the women and families of North Texas and beyond. Planned Parenthood is an invaluable provider of healthcare services each year.
