From sky-high views to sensorial splendors, the city beckons with possibilities.
The new hotel sits pretty within the 19-city-block Harwood District.
Winding through the bustling streets of the Harwood District, you might notice that there is a sizable new addition—and we call it Hôtel Swexan. Standing tall at 22 feet high, this modern boutique hotel marks Harwood International’s entry into the hotel biz. The flagship hotel, designed by lauded Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is set to open this summer, and we can guarantee you’ll want to be first on the check-in list. Providing the latest in luxury offerings and over-the-top amenities, the 134-room hotel evokes the best of Harwood’s founders— marrying a beautiful mix of Swiss charm and Texas pride—et voila, welcome to Hôtel Swexan. harwoodinternational.com

Brass Ram marks Badovinus’ second restaurant in Dallas’ East Quarter.
Badovinus is back, baby. Once again adding a little sizzle to the restaurant scene, restaurateur Nick Badovinus recently opened the doors to his newest spot, located in Dallas’ East Quarter: Brass Ram. As the mastermind behind some of the city’s most beloved restaurants—Town Hearth, Neighborhood Services and, my personal fave, Montlake Cut—with Brass Ram, the culinary tour de force is putting his own stamp on the nostalgia behind a good old-fashioned steakhouse. Cozy up in one of the midcentury-modernized booths while you select from the sizable menu of prime ribs, steaks, chops and more while sipping on an ice-cold martini. Is it supper time yet? 2130 Commerce St., brassram.com

John Riepenhoff , “Skies (parallax_ii)” (2022, acrylic, flashe and oil on linen)
Having recently opened John Riepenhoff’s exhibition Scene Painters’ Almanac, contemporary art space Various Small Fires summons with a selection of thought-provoking pieces from the Milwaukee-based artist. Running through Feb. 18, the exhibition (which marks Riepenhoff’s premiere solo show in Texas) features a body of abstract paintings that begin en plein air. Surrounded by the brilliant night sky, Riepenhoff produced this collection of work during sessions held outside his studio that encapsulate the true beauty of the Midwestern skies. 1511 Commerce St., vsf.la
