Magnificent Obsessions

| November 30, 2011 | Parties

The Overture It was a night of dramatic crescendos when The Dallas Opera and Deloitte presented First Night of Tragic Obsessions, the opening night gala to the 2011-2012 season, co-chaired by Kaki Hopkins, marking TDO’s 55th anniversary season. Red carpet in place, waves of black-tie guests glided through countless camera flashes and air kisses to enter the Winspear Opera House for a reception before taking a seat for the evening’s performance. Stylish Interludes Pouring on more haute passion to First Night, red carpet co-chairs Rhonda Sargent Chambers and Marisa Huckin recruited local designers to make costume-inspired confections representing the Tragic Obsessions theme and the season’s operas: Lucia di Lammermoor, Tristan & Isolde, La traviata and The Magic Flute. Michael Faircloth, Abi Ferrin, Geoffrey Henning, Khanh Nguyen and Nicolas Villalba all delivered with their theatrical gowns modeled by the pretty likes of Tanya Foster, Elizabeth Kimple, D’Andra Simmons, Shannon Skokos and Linda Ivy. The Curtain Call After the final aria, the glamorous group headed to the First Night tent for a dinner, also influenced by TDO’s new season—from “Devoted Love” lobster bisque and “Parisian Night” steak au poivre to couture-like floral design by Branching Out, Dr. Delphinium, Gro Designs, Rusty Glenn Designs and Urban Flower/Grange Hall.
