Conjuring a unique conversation, Ignasi Aballí debuts his exhibition at the Meadows Museum this month.
Hanging at eye level, the 27 plates evoke emotion and invite guests to explore the bigger picture behind a literal word.
Form and function collide at the recently unveiled exhibition Palabras Vacías—which translates to “Empty Words”—at the Meadows Museum (meadowsmuseumdallas.org). Running through June 26, Spanish conceptual artist Ignasi Aballí summons his audience to soak in the meaning behind a word versus its true literal form. Featuring 27 galvanized iron plates that hang directly at eye level, the exhibition is rife with emotion and beckons viewers to acknowledge the various patterns of perception.

“Most of us live in a completely visual world in which nearly everything is communicated through images,” notes Aballí. “I am interested in exploring the relationship between words and images in order to propose a new understanding between what we see and what we describe.”
