The name Homewood felt serendipitous, says restaurateur Michael Barnett about his much-anticipated venture with chef Matt McCallister, now open on the corner of Oak Lawn and Avondale avenues in Highland Park. “We want diners to feel like they’ve stepped into a close friend’s home.” With its wood-burning hearth, raw bar and pasta cooking station, guests can expect a menu that’s both approachable and sophisticated. According to Barnett among the can’t-miss items are the parkerhouse rolls with Parmesan Mornay and chicken drippings (“luxurious yet soulful”), pasta Bolognese (“elegant and comforting”) and Hereford pork loin glazed with a miso barbecue sauce (“amazing”). Along with banquette, booth and bar seating, outdoor dining will be available on a patio that houses an on-site garden for growing fresh herbs and vegetables. Much of the staff has moved with McCallister from FT33, one of the first restaurants to bring local farms to the forefront. “I think Dallas really understands the importance and benefits of eating food that is locally sourced. These artisan farmers, fisherman and ranchers are not only our partners, they’re also our friends,” says Barnett. 4002 Oak Lawn Ave., 214.434.1244, homewooddallas.com
