Stroll down Arcady Avenue in Dallas’ Highland Park, and a bevy of magnificent estates will surround you. It is easy to transport yourself back in time and imagine what the city was like when these homes were originally built. That is precisely the case when you take a look at this historic charmer. Initially built in 1926 by esteemed architect Hal Thompson, this home is on the National Register of Historic Places. If those walls could only talk...
The homeowner sought a complete renovation to help usher the property into the next-gen, tapping a top-tier team including builder John Jarrett, landscape architect Robert Bellamy and interior designer Kara Adam. The result? A modernized manse imbued with the rich history of the past.

Adam set out to bring a breath of fresh air to the space, enlisting a punchy color palette, playful design elements and myriad offerings to entertain. “The homeowners wanted a comfortable home that they could entertain in,” notes Adam. “We put in a big dining table, added an outdoor kitchen area and a pool, and a massive family-friendly indoor kitchen, because every time they all get together the kitchen is ground zero for gathering and conversation.”

The team painted the exterior facade to add curb appeal and reimagined the circular driveway. Inside the 5530-square-foot space, one will find a thoughtfully curated collection of art procured by Lynsey Wiley of Wiley Fine Art Advisory. Other playful details include the powder bath adorned in a cheerful print from Voutsa, a massive gaming and TV room ready for some friendly competition and a careful blend of new design elements paired with original pieces of the home paying tribute to the days of yesterday while ushering in a new tomorrow.
