The quest to perfect your skincare routine can feel like a never-ending journey of buying and testing products, surprise breakouts and TikTok deep dives for beauty hacks. But it turns out simplicity is key.
Hollywood makeup artist Ignacia Soto-Aguilar knows all too well the importance of keeping skin nourished and wanting it to look flawless. The Chilean-born artist has worked on industry big hitters, including The Hunger Games, Vice, Project Power and Claws, in addition to a slew of other titles. Before preparing stars for the camera, Soto-Aguilar began her career in fashion and red carpet glam, meaning she is well-versed in skin. It is, afterall, the ultimate canvas.
Between her duties of tending to the stars, Soto-Aguilar was kind enough to reveal her very own skincare routine and beauty regimen secrets. Read on to get the inside scoop from her and level-up your own routine.
Confession: As much as I love makeup, I don’t love wearing it.
As someone with freckles I have always been limited when it comes to natural-finish skin coverage options, which forces me to keep my skin healthy enough to wear minimal to no skin coverage.
I have spent a fortune experimenting with new routines on my own skin. It wasn’t until recent years as a professional that I have learned the importance of figuring out what products have the ingredients that match your individual needs and that piling on the products, regardless of their individual benefits, is not only unnecessary but it may backfire. Quality over quantity definitely applies to skincare, and quality doesn’t always mean pricey. Don’t get me wrong— very few things are more enjoyable to me than spending a full day drenched in oils, creams and masks while sipping on cucumber water at the spa, but too many steps in your skincare routine can actually have the opposite effect. It can be very overwhelming when it seems like our favorite influencers and social media algorithms are suggesting applying 10 different must-haves twice a day. It can make us all feel like we are not doing it right.
Almost like eating habits and physical activity, the secret is finding the perfect balance between products, budget and daily time allowance when it comes to your personalized skincare routine. I’ve definitely been guilty of years of 10 step routines morning and night, but the more I’ve learned with the years, and as free time becomes a commodity more and more due to my demanding schedule, I’ve gotten my personal regimen down to a few easy steps.
I start off with Tatcha’s The Rice Polish Classic for mild exfoliation and cleansing. I love how smooth and awake it makes my skin feel. It is the perfect cleanser to jumpstart the day.
Next, I apply Cosmedix Surge Hyaluronic Acid Booster all over and massage it on in an upward motion with Jillian Dempsey’s gold bar. My skin is on the dry side and hyaluronic acid instantly plumps and hydrates it. Nothing helps morning puffiness like the JD’s gold sculpting bar. I’m absolutely obsessed with it.
Moisturizer: Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream. It locks moisture in all day.
Eyes: Tatcha’s Luminous Deep Hydration Eye firming serum. It absorbs so quickly and it makes my eyes instantly brighter.
SPF: Amarte’s Ultra Veil Facial Sunscreen. It is so lightweight, waterproof and makes my skin glow.
Cleanser: Tatcha’s Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil - It is so gentle, effective in removing everything and it leaves skin surprisingly hydrating.
Serum: Cosmedix Surge Hyaluronic Acid Booster again because I deserve it.
Moisturizer: Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask. Leave it on overnight and thank me later.
Eyes : Amarte’s Eyeconic Eye Cream- Deeply hydrating retinol is lightweight yet rich. And it really does improve the appearance of fine lines.
