Global Warmth

| April 4, 2013 | Parties

THE SETTING The Goss Michael Foundation was lit in futuristic blue for its most interactive (and tech-savvy!) cocktail event, The UNICEF Experience. Volunteers with iPads in hand greeted guests at the door, giving a quick lesson on how to engage. It was easy as 1) download the app, 2) choose “inspired gifts” such as emergency water kits or therapeutic milk, and 3) click to purchase! THE SCENE Being able to see exactly where donations went made for charged excitement in the room, and after guests sipped and nibbled on the other kind of app, the auction got under way. Robert Thompson, senior vice president of development, U.S. Fund for UNICEF, hit the podium running, getting lots of laughs (and plenty of bids) for the big-ticket item, a motorbike ambulance, when he amiably put on a safety helmet and threatened not to take it off until it was sold—his plan worked. THE CROWD Joyce Goss and Rich Moses, gracious hosts and chairs, greeted a guest list that included Brian Bolke and Faisal Halum, Jill and Jim Cochran, Brock and Kelly Compton, Jo Marie Lilly, Sheryl and Eric Maas, Lynn McBee, Jessica Nowitzki and Loc Truong and Nini Nguyen. With everyone all smiles and in a giving mood, it was a fruitful evening for UNICEF. Photography by Kristina Bowman
