Flower Power

| June 25, 2012 | Parties National

THE SETTING Co-chairs Barbara Daseke and Carmaleta Whiteley took the 24th annual Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme, “The Art of Nature,” quite literally—butterflies flew around Daseke’s fascinator, which she paired with a necklace of palm fronds and a stuffed chipmunk on her shoulder. And Todd Fiscus fluffed Whiteley’s sizeable hat with leaves and orchids galore. Of course, both women were in good company among the 500 guests (seemingly all with extravagant bonnets) at the luncheon and fashion show, sponsored by Modern Luxury Dallas, benefiting the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum. THE SHOW Emcee Ron Corning held his own among the ladies who lunch, as he welcomed the group to the live auction and Jan Strimple’s standout runway production with looks from Cicada, Forty Five Ten, Betty Reiter and V.O.D. THE CHAPEAUS Floral designer Shane Walker not only outfitted the Arboretum luncheon tables, which boasted pheasant-feather topiaries, he actually blended right in with his outrageous contraption of deer antlers, feathers and more. He and Billy Fulmer, who rocked a stuffed pheasant atop his head, scored the prize for Diamonds in the Rough. Walker also designed winning toppers for Joani White (Most True to Theme) and Lee Bailey (Most Elegant). Also seen: honorary chair Nancy C. Rogers in a coral confection and Jill Rowlett’s abundance of blooms surrounding a three-tier working water fountain. Photography by Dana Driensky and Daniel Driensky
