Emmitt Smith is perhaps one of the greatest football players of all time. As the National Football League’s (NFL) all-time leading rusher, Smith helped the Dallas Cowboys win three Super Bowls, led the league for rushing yard four times, and was named to eight Pro Bowls. Beloved in Texas and by football fans everywhere, there’s no doubt a chance to speak with Smith is a hot-ticket item on any market.
Smith seems to be aware of this as well, as he continues to work in one of his favorite post-playing hobbies: real estate. It was announced last week that the former Cowboy listed his 10,806-square-foot home in Dallas for $2.2 million—a reference to the number 22, which Smith wore during his time in Dallas—and that the lucky buyer would get the chance to have dinner with Smith himself following the purchase.

According to People magazine, Smith hopes to emphasize the home’s potential by playing party host.
"This home is special because it's the ideal place to host friends and family, just as Emmitt has done many times over the years," says listing agent Arthur Greenstein with Douglas Elliman. “ Now that his kids are grown, he is looking to downsize and is excited for the next owners to love the home as much as he has."
While $2.2 million may seem a low price for a Hall of Famer’s home, the mansion features plenty of prime amenities. Secluded from the street by a private gate and fence, guests enter via a large driveway and park under a portico that leads to the main foyer. The home is situated right next to a wooded park, as well as a private lake. If you're not feeling outdoorsy, you can always swim in the backyard pool.
The interior is nothing to sneeze at, boasting five bedrooms, nine baths, and plenty of perks fit for a football star. The main foyer is large enough to accommodate a chandelier, flanked by a wood-and-iron staircase that leads up to the private suites.
Beyond the foyer, there’s plenty to do and explore. Buyers can enjoy two living rooms, an entertainment theater with luxurious seating for 11, and a huge game room complete with pool table and carpeting straight out of the NFL Draft Green Room. As stressed by the listing agency, this is a home with plenty of things for guests to do, making it a perfect spot for parties and those with younger children.
A large chef’s kitchen offers a beautiful center island placed on a pedestal, as well as two office spaces, including a wood-paneled space that feels as if it was ripped straight from Succession.
Those heading upstairs will find the primary suite, which comes standard with a large fireplace and three closets, as well as a bathroom fit for a regal couple: two toilets, a jacuzzi bath, a shower with multiple jets, and a steam room.
The home was first built in 1995 when Smith was still with the Cowboys. It was built for himself, his wife Patricia Southall and their three children.
Smith is known for his infectious personality but is also well regarded for his property skills. He owns a majority stake in Smith/Cypress Partners LP, which regularly develops new retail spaces in densely-populated areas, including Phoenix and Fort Worth.
A home fit for an NFL legend, dinner with one of the most popular players of all time, and sunny Texas skies. That seems more than worth the $2.2 million price tag. See more images of the home below, and visit the official listing for more details.
