BRIGHT LIGHTS Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking—ah, that tailored piece of tuxedo perfection. It was this powerful pantsuit that informed DIFFA/Dallas’ Collection 2012: Smoking Haute, co-chaired by Darin Kunz and Matt Wilkerson and sponsored by Modern Luxury Dallas. The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS’ Style Council Ambassadors strutted their support, too, embracing the suit theme and walking a lengthy runway to a pack of photographers. BIG SASS Trim tuxedos and traditional menswear was the trend informing DIFFA’s one-of-a-kind designer jackets, but the riffs on the style still delivered plenty of sultry appeal. So did the catwalk show from creative directors Jan Strimple and Brian Brothers, that moved from hair-raising (literally!) scenes with towering tresses and fascinator-like confections to provocative body-painted odes referencing flora and fauna. The Stanley Korshak segment of hot exits actually proved the most “wearable,” while an interlude of singing gender-benders really had the crowd wigging out. Blown-away status: achieved. AND THIS... The runway extravaganza and live auction were high-energy, but guests still had plenty of steam to hit the Belvedere Vodka backstage celebration. Photography by Art of Mind Productions
