'Dallas' Does Dallas

| December 21, 2011 | Parties

COWBOY COOL “I’m wearing the snake that bit me,” joked Key Coker, pointing to his fancy rattlesnake belt in the silent auction tent at Cattle Baron’s Ball. The belt didn’t have any bling, but Key and his wife, Katherine, had the “Rhinestone Cowboy” look down pat for the bright and bedazzled 38th annual blockbuster fundraiser at Southfork Ranch, benefiting the American Cancer Society. Chairman Jennifer Dix and her crew of sequin-clad and boots-wearing committee members managed to raise more than $4 million during the lively evening. THE SING-ALONG Clint Black took the stage in the VIP Baron Party tent for patrons including Barbara and Don Daseke and Julianna and Chris LeBlanc, where many joined the country music crooner on their favorite songs. GONE COUNTRY Years ago, Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and all the “Ewings” attended Cattle Baron’s religiously. Renewing this tradition, the cast of TNT’s upcoming Dallas revival, including Jordana Brewster, Julie Gonzalo, Brenda Strong and local native Josh Henderson appeared on the scene. Dierks Bentley revved up bidders from the live auction stage before international getaways, epicurean experiences and a sporty 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster brought in major bucks. After filling up on Eddie Deen’s Cajun cooking, washed down with margaritas, the 3,000-strong crowd settled in for a knockout main show by Darius Rucker, who snuck in a fair share of Hootie and the Blowfish hits, too.
