Chills and Trills!

| January 2, 2013 | Parties

The Setting A bevy of Dallas bombshells in a flurry of color hit the red carpet outside the Winspear Opera House for the annual First Night. From the serene nude shades worn by Alexandra Hicks and Rhonda Marcus, to Diane Johnston’s pink faille silk and feathered number, to the rich reds on Rhonda Sargent Chambers and designer Khanh Nguyen, the evening’s theme, “Pursuits of Passion,” was perfectly interpreted. The Scene Guests floated from the red carpet to a cocktail reception, mingling with honorary chairs Joyce and Harvey Mitchell, Patti and John Cody, Shannon and Ted Skokos, Amy and Vernon Faulconer and Caroline Rose Hunt. On to the performance—a rousing rendition of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, starring Texas-born soprano Latonia Moore in the tortured title role. The Crowd A late-night dinner recalling the splendor of ancient Egypt was served alfresco in a lavish tent at Annette Strauss Square. Chaired by Holly and Tom Mayer, the dinner featured Wolfgang Puck Catering’s usual delectable fare. But it was the flowing wine and later-than-usual dinner hour that turned the evening into a Pharaoh-approved celebration. Photography by Rob Wythe and Holt Haynsworth
