Constantly carving a new path toward creative expression, Dallas native and Booker T. alum Arlo Eisenberg is full speed ahead with NFT emporium Drug Receipts (drugreceipts.com). We caught up with this tour de force to learn about what’s new and now within such a compelling space.
How did you embark on finding your creative voice? I moved to Southern California in the early ’90s to take a shot at a dream. I ended up becoming a professional rollerblader and became the editor of the first magazine devoted to aggressive inline skating, Daily Bread. I won the first National Inline Skate Series in 1994 and won a gold medal in the X Games in 1996. All the while I balanced skating with art, graphic design and writing. After skating, I transitioned into the broadcast booth for Fox Sports, ESPN and NBC. Eventually, I transitioned into full-time graphic design.
Fondest accomplishments to date? After years of doing design in Southern California with different agencies, my father propositioned me to come back to Dallas and work with him at Eisenberg And Associates. My father is an icon in the Dallas design community, and he’s had a successful branding and marketing firm in Dallas for over 50 years. About eight years ago, my daughter and I moved back to Texas and I went into business with my father. After about seven years at the agency, I had an opportunity to focus full time on Drug Receipts. Leaving the agency to focus on my project was exhilarating but also bittersweet.
What do you love most about your job? Drug Receipts is a brand built on the pillars of art and subversion, science and skepticism, and community and sport. With Drug Receipts I get to use all of the skills I’ve honed over the last 20 to 30 years: art, graphic design, writing, communicating and skepticism. It provides me with a platform to share my art and my ideas, and it provides me with a community to engage and collaborate with.
How would you describe your personal style? I like to stand out. But I also like to look designed and put-together. I want to be noticed, but not ridiculed.
What does the future hold? We are just getting started. We sold out a 10K collection of NFTs in 24 hours. We had an art opening with Tyler Shields at Samuel Lynne Galleries in the Dallas Design District. We released a custom pair of skates, and we sold out of our first IRL/URL augmented reality wearable. We are innovating a new model for brands in the metaverse and beyond. I can’t wait to share all of the exciting things that we have been working on and especially what we are doing with apparel and augmented reality.
