Antiquarian Avant-Garde Photography: Works by the North Texas Alternative Process Group

| June 26, 2012 | Calendar

Sun to Moon Gallery encourages and supports the local photographic community, and presents those who appreciate photography as art, with a unique new exhibition—it's the first exhibition at the gallery that has featured artwork by a group of photographers who are independent from the gallery, and the diverse range of visions, processes and artistry all encompassed in one show is exceptional.

As members of the North Texas Alternative Process Group, the photographers represented in the show are professional artists and educators in photography from the region with national and international exhibition records. These talented photographers meet monthly to exchange ideas and introduce new work, and share a passion for practicing non-traditional image-making techniques, including historical processes dating back to the birth of photography as well as modern transfer methods and inkjet printing on fabric.

This exhibition showcases a diverse range of work that uniquely integrates contemporary subject matter and conceptual stimulus with unconventional or antique photographic methods, including Casein, Cyanotype, Encaustic, Gum Bichromate, Inkjet on Fabric, Palladium, Photographic Image Transfer, Wet Plate Collodion and Ziatype. Artists represented include Peter J. Blackburn, Amy Holmes George, Loli Kantor, Frank Lopez, Kathy Lovas, Brian J. Magnuson, Rachel Rushing, Judy Sherrod and Susan Sponsler.
