Action Packed!

| June 21, 2011 | Parties National

The Fest: It was a sizzle reel of firsts for the fifth annual event, with the Arts District debuting as the Opening Night venue. More than 1,000 film buffs gathered at the Winspear Opera House for the first-ever Dallas Star Award, presented to Oscar-winner Ann-Margret, followed by a screening of Being Elmo and a tribute to Festival founder and chairman emeritus Liener Temerlin. Another first? An artist-in-residence—Rolando Diaz. Screen Time: Stats for the 11-day fest? Impressive! Think 91 features and 93 shorts from 27 countries, 192 screenings and 250 filmmakers, panelists, jurors and celebs. The Stars: Marquee names, including Big D fave Larry Hagman, were spotted on the red carpet and at the Dallas Film Society Honors, along with DIFF artistic director James Faust and DFS’s Michael Cain and Tanya Foster.
