Sutherland Furniture has expanded Vincent Van Duysen’s Otti line, releasing new pieces just in time for spring. Here, David Sutherland gives us the scoop on his buzzy collab.

You launched your first collection with Vincent Van Duysen in 2019. How did this collaboration come about? We seek out potential collaborators around the world and were lucky enough to meet Vincent on a trip to Antwerp in 2017. Design from Belgium in general is the best in the world, and we were on a pilgrimage to meet as many designers as we could. It was an amazing trip—everything about it was inspirational.
Can you tell us a little about the new Otti Modular collection and how the pieces differ from those launched in the original Otti collection? Both Otti and Otti Modular collections feature Vincent’s discerning eye for timeless sophistication, as well as Perennials rope, a durable, soft outdoor rope made with Perennials’ 100% solution-dyed acrylic fibers. The Otti Modular pieces were designed with lounging and versatility in mind. With deeper seats and endless layout options, designers have unlimited possibilities for outdoor seating arrangements.

With everyone spending more time in their homes (and yards), have you seen an increased interest in outdoor furniture over the past year? Well, sales are up significantly, and that would seem to be a confirmation of increased interest for sure. Our design perspective and interest for the past 27 years have focused on the outdoors just being an extension of the indoors. This constitutes aligning the two into a continuum of the designers’ vision and expertise, and recognizing that the two can, indeed, be one.
Anything you can share about what you have planned for the rest of the year? We are constantly working on new products, as it can realistically take a year to 18 months to bring something to market. We are very excited about our collaborations and opportunities for both the immediate and long-term client. And we aren’t finished with Vincent Van Duysen… we are finalizing a modular rendition of his Franck collection. Dallas: 1025 N.
