After much anticipation, Auberge Resorts Collection is offering a Texas-sized welcome to its guests at this new private club and grandiose destination hotel.
Take one look past the magnificent gates of the Commodore Perry Estate, and you will find yourself immediately transported to a dreamy paradise. Perhaps you’ll feel as if you’re on the set of an iconic Fellini film, or even the latest blockbuster hit from Nancy Meyers. Either way, you have found yourself immersed in a magical wonderland. Truth be told, I had heard some initial rumblings about the landmark property—knowing that this was the premiere urban estate for Auberge Resorts Collection (aubergeresorts.com) as well as the brand’s entree into Texas—however, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect for my weekend getaway to the City of the Violet Crown. The end result, I found, was the ultimate weekend reprieve I didn’t even realize I needed.

Nestled in Austin’s historic Hancock neighborhood lies an oasis comprising 10 verdant acres alongside Waller Creek. Originally built by H.B. Thompson in 1928 for business tycoon Edgar Perry and his wife, Lutie, the manse was modeled after the couple’s extensive European travels—replete with a carriage house and formal gardens. The Perrys were famous for their over-the-top entertaining style, so it was only natural that, when the time came for modern-day renovations, the newly minted hotel and private club would reflect the sentiments of its predecessors.
“Our goal was to craft guest experiences that would celebrate this utterly unique estate,” says Ken Fulk, designer and creative director of the property. “Everything—from the interior design to the in-room amenities and offerings around the estate—was designed to merge the property’s relaxed European charm with truly gracious Texas hospitality.” And, let me say that a whimsical mix of charm and congeniality is undoubtedly what the Commodore Perry Estate offers to its guests, in spades.
The facilities include 54 luxurious rooms and lavish suites; a grandiose 50-foot oval pool; a multitude of venues for dining and craft-cocktails, including an open-air restaurant; a fitness studio; and expansive lush gardens perfect for a group picnic, sunny stroll or an evening of stargazing. Whatever you may be searching for, odds are you will find it through the hotel’s cultural offerings, health-and-wellness activities and good old-fashioned R&R.
This season, might we suggest that a decadent getaway to this beautiful respite might be just what the doctor ordered.
